Don’t shame the shirt

Football may be the beautiful game, but it can get pretty ugly.

English football fans are passionate. This passion makes the game beautiful, but it also drives ugly mob behaviour.

Hidden among thousands of supporters, and swept up by crowd-fever, people who would never normally be racist, find themselves singing racist chants.

To persuade fans that racism is never okay, we sent them a message using the symbol they love most: the club crest.

The shirts of shame campaign would deliver the right imagery to the right fans at the right time.

The symbols would appear in match day programs, media sites around the relevant teams’ grounds and on beermats in fan-favourite pubs.

What’s more, stadium screens could ‘react’ to racist chants as and when they happen, by replacing the regular club crests with shirts of shame.

At a PR event, BAME footie players - clad in our shirts of shame - would discuss their experiences of racism.
