Whatever floats your boat - London

Building Cabriole IV

Scroll

When my friend told me he’d bought a boat, I was looking forwards to a summer at sea.

That dream died when I discovered the boat was not a yacht. And not only would there be no jacuzzi, there wouldn’t even be walls. When the 20 metre long wide-beam barge was delivered to South Dock Marina in South London, it was quite literally a steel shell

Cabriole IV

Over the years, I helped transform a bare hull into Cabriole IV. Being tragically British, we insisted the job would ‘be over by Christmas.’ But we didn’t specific which Christmas…

After days of chiseling insulation foam, fitting ceiling panels and crafting cupboards, trial and error bore fruit. I’ve since used the carpentry skills I learned on projects of my own.

None of which are a boat. Boats can fuck off.
